Sri Lanka: MEDSF hands over last remaining project

MEDSF has handed over its last remaining activities in Mullaitivu district, Sri Lanka, having first worked in the country in 1986. The handover of the mental health programme in August 2012 to an established international NGO with a long-term operational plan for the north of the country follows a progressive transfer of medical activities to the Ministry of Health during the last 18 months.

For more than two decades, the people of Sri Lanka have lived with violence and conflict. Since the end of the war last year, people are gradually returning to their homes and trying to rebuild their lives. Pete Masters visited MEDSF's projects in northern Sri Lanka and reports back here to supporters on how funds are being used.  He was particularly struck by MEDSF's innovative specialist rehabilitation programme for people with spinal cord injuries sustained during the conflict.
