MEDSF increases assistance in post-earthquake region of Peru

MEDSF first started working at the Peru earthquake on August 17, with staff and a shipment of relief supplies to the region. To date, over 2,200 people have benefited from the MEDSF mental health programme and, so far, 2,500 families (around 12,500 people) have benefited from MEDSF distributions of relief goods.

Almost two weeks after the earthquake in Peru, the situation for victims is no longer mentioned in the international media and on the ground, several aid organisations have started to leave the area. However, MEDSF teams continue to see forgotten populations in desperate need of assistance. One example is Guadalupe, a town of 12,000 inhabitants located 100 km southeast of Pisco in the suburbs of Ica city.

The first MEDSF team arrived in Pisco the day after the earthquake, to carry out an assessment. Today, 25 MEDSF staff, both Peruvian and international, are working together to provide assistance to the affected people.
