Two earthquakes hit Nepal in April and May 2015, killing an estimated 8,500 people and injuring 20,000 more. MEDSF launched activities aimed at helping affected populations in need immediately the first earthquake struck.

In Memoriam: MEDSF colleagues lost in Nepal crash

On Tuesday 2nd June, three of our colleagues lost their lives in a helicopter crash in Nepal. Sandeep Mahat, Jessica Wilford, and Sher Bahadur Karki (Raj) were flying back to Kathmandu after delivering much-needed medical and humanitarian assistance to earthquake-affected villages in Sindhupalchowk district when the accident occurred. We miss them all tremendously.

MEDSF helicopter crashes in Nepal

On Tuesday 2nd June, a helicopter chartered by MEDSF, delivering humanitarian aid, crashed in Sindhupalchowk district, Nepal.
MMEDSF regrets to confirm the death of three of its staff members in this crash. The team were delivering much-needed medical and humanitarian assistance in Sindhupalchowk district when the accident occurred.

MEDSF is racing against time to reach remote villages with medical supplies and shelter material. Difficult logistics and terrain leave limited transport options, meaning MEDSF teams have to use helicopters to transport these materials to villages north and east of Kathmandu every day.

I did not see any patients entering the hospital buildings. All the patients are outside. These people, who were injured during the quakes and underwent orthopedic surgery, are hospitalized in tents.
